    * Table of Contents {:toc} ## Introduction ![Superman](/images/Superman.jpg){:.pull-right} The superhero genre is one of the most popular forms of entertainment today. From comic books to blockbuster movies such as "Iron Man", "The Dark Knight" or "Guardians of the Galaxy", it seems as though superheroes are everywhere. This is not surprising given that they tap into our innate desires for power. We all want to feel like we can do extraordinary things. Superheroes give us this feeling. We can imagine ourselves having superpowers such as super strength or flight. Or perhaps we can relate more closely to characters such as Iron Man or Batman who have extraordinary resources at their disposal. But this is not enough. For us to truly enjoy these characters we need more than just raw power. Superheroes are heroes after all. They have admirable qualities such as bravery or compassion which make them worthy of our admiration. They also have compelling stories which help us connect with them emotionally. This post will explore some of these elements which make up an ideal superhero character. ## What Makes Superheroes Interesting? ### Power ![Batman](/images/Batman.jpg){:.pull-right} The first thing that comes to mind when we think about superheroes is power. Whether it is physical strength or mental acuity or even financial resources - there needs to be something special about our hero which makes them different from ordinary people. This can take many forms depending on what type of story you want your character involved in but there must always be some element which sets them apart from everyone else around them so they stand out among other characters within their universe (and ours!). ### Vulnerability ![Wonder Woman](/images/WonderWoman.jpg){:.pull-right} In order for us as audience members/viewers/readers/listeners etc...to care about your protagonist then he/she needs flaws too - otherwise he/she would seem invincible without any weaknesses making him/her seem boring/uninteresting since nobody likes reading/listening/watching/etc...about someone who cannot lose! This does not mean however that every single flaw must lead directly towards eventual downfall; instead these imperfections should add depth into characterisation making him/her more relatable whilst still remaining likable overall despite possessing some negative traits here-and-there throughout story arc(s). ### Character Arc ![Spider-Man](/images/SpiderMan.jpg){:.pull-right} A good story always involves change - whether it is personal growth or loss or even redemption - something must happen which alters how we perceive our protagonist by end compared beginning! This arc should not only apply directly towards main character(s) but also those around him/her including villains/enemies/allies/friends etc... In fact often times these supporting characters play important roles within overall narrative structure providing motivation/conflict/resolution etc...which help drive plot forward whilst also giving us insight into protagonist’s inner world through interactions between various individuals present throughout story arc(s). ### Conflict ![Captain America](/images/CaptainAmerica.jpg){:.pull-right} Conflict is another essential element when crafting engaging narratives involving superheroes since without it there would be little reason why anyone would want read/listen/watch/etc...about these characters beyond simple enjoyment derived from seeing powerful beings do cool things! Conflict can come from many different sources including internal struggles within protagonist himself/herself (e.g., self-doubt) or external forces such as villains/enemies/allies/friends etc...who oppose protagonist’s goals/objectives/values/morals etc... Again supporting cast members often play important roles here providing motivation/conflict/resolution etc...which help drive plot forward whilst also giving us insight into protagonist’s inner world through interactions between various individuals present throughout story arc(s). ### Motivation ![Thor](/images/Thor.jpg){:.pull-right} Motivation refers specifically towards reasons why certain actions take place within narrative structure i.e., what drives protagonist towards achieving specific goals/objectives/values/morals etc... These motivations should always remain consistent throughout entire course narrative arc(s) regardless whether they originate internally within protagonist himself/herself (e.g., desire revenge) or externally imposed upon him/her by outside forces such as villains/enemies/allies/friends etc... Again supporting cast members often play important roles here providing motivation/conflict/resolution etc...which help drive plot forward whilst also giving us insight into protagonist’s inner world through interactions between various individuals present throughout story arc(s). ### Resolution ![Black Panther](/images/BlackPanther.jpg){:.pull-right} Finally resolution refers specifically towards manner in which conflict gets resolved i.e., how does protagonist overcome obstacles facing him/her along way towards achieving specific goal/objective/value/moral etc... This resolution should always remain consistent throughout entire course narrative arc(s) regardless whether it originates internally within protagonist himself/herself (e.g., realises true nature) or externally imposed upon him/her by outside forces such as villains/enemies/allies/friends etc... Again supporting cast members often play important roles here providing motivation/conflict/resolution etc...which help drive plot forward whilst also giving us insight into protagonist’s inner world through interactions between various individuals present throughout story arc(s). ## Crafting Your Superhero Now that we have explored some of the key elements which make up an ideal superhero character let’s take a look at how you can go about creating your own! ### Step One: Choose Your Powers The first step is deciding what powers your hero will possess. Will they have super strength? Or perhaps flight? Or maybe telepathy? Whatever you choose just make sure it fits within overall theme/storyline you want tell since this will help guide development process later down road! ### Step Two: Determine Vulnerabilities Next determine any vulnerabilities/flaws which might exist within characterisation itself; these should serve dual purpose firstly adding depth secondly providing opportunities conflict resolution later down road so don’t forget include them too! For example perhaps our hero suffers from self-doubt which prevents him/her from fully utilising powers whenever needed most times despite knowing full well capabilities possessed therein case eventuality arises requiring intervention thereof again later within narrative structure itself thereby allowing room growth personal development along way towards achieving ultimate goal/objective/value/moral etc... ### Step Three: Create Character Arcs Once powers/vulnerabilities determined next step involves creating arcs both main character(s) supporting cast members alike since these will serve dual purpose firstly driving plot forward secondly providing insight into inner worlds respective protagonists through interactions occurring therein case eventuality arises requiring intervention thereof again later within narrative structure itself thereby allowing room growth personal development along way towards achieving ultimate goal/objective/value/moral etc... For example perhaps our hero starts off unsure himself/herself unsure whether capable handling responsibilities thrust upon him/her whenever situation arises requiring intervention thereof again later within narrative structure itself thereby allowing room growth personal development along way towards achieving ultimate goal/objective/value/moral etc... ### Step Four: Establish Conflicts Next establish conflicts both internal external nature since these will serve dual purpose firstly driving plot forward secondly providing opportunities conflict resolution later down road so don’t forget include them too! For example perhaps our hero faces opposition villainous foe who seeks destroy everything dear him/her despite knowing full well capabilities possessed therein case eventuality arises requiring intervention thereof again later within narrative structure itself thereby allowing room growth personal development along way towards achieving ultimate goal/objective/value/moral etc... ### Step Five: Define Motivations Once conflicts established next step involves defining motivations behind actions taken both main character(s) supporting cast members alike since these will serve dual purpose firstly driving plot forward secondly providing insight into inner worlds respective protagonists through interactions occurring therein case eventuality arises requiring intervention thereof again later within narrative structure itself thereby allowing room growth personal development along way towards achieving ultimate goal/objective/value/moral etc... For example perhaps our hero initially motivated desire revenge against villainous foe who seeks destroy everything dear him/her despite knowing full well capabilities possessed therein case eventuality arises requiring intervention thereof again later within narrative structure itself thereby allowing room growth personal development along way towards achieving ultimate goal/objective/value/moral etc... ### Step Six: Resolve Conflicts Finally resolve conflicts both internal external nature since these will serve dual purpose firstly driving plot forward secondly providing opportunities conflict resolution later down road so don’t forget include them too! For example perhaps our hero eventually realises true nature villainous foe who seeks destroy everything dear him/her despite knowing full well capabilities possessed therein case eventuality arises requiring intervention thereof again later within narrative structure itself thereby allowing room growth personal development along way towards achieving ultimate goal/objective/value/moral etc... ## Conclusion Creating an ideal superhero character involves balancing multiple elements including power vulnerability character arc conflict motivation resolution all working together harmoniously ensure engaging narrative structure capable captivating audiences/viewers/readers/listeners/etc...for years come regardless medium employed tell story therein case eventuality arises requiring intervention thereof again later within narrative structure itself thereby allowing room growth personal development along way towards achieving ultimate goal/objective/value/moral etc... <|file_sep|># edwardleow.github.io<|file_sep|># edwardleow.github.io Personal website. <|repo_name|>edwardleow/edwardleow.github.io<|file_sep|>/_posts/2016-01-18-A-Brief-History-of-Google.md --- layout: post title: A Brief History of Google ---
