Scale bar corresponds to 20 kpc at $z = 0$} label{fig:morphology} end{figure} The following subsections describe our sample selection process. subsection{Isolated galaxies} As mentioned above we select galaxies which do not have any other galaxy within $R_{90}$ radius from them (textit{isolated galaxies}). We compare our sample with that obtained using data from SDSS DR14~cite{Abolfathi2018} which contains 188~K galaxies within $0 leq z leq 0.15$. We find $R_{90}$ distribution for our sample is similar (Fig~ref{fig:r90dist}) but larger than that obtained using SDSS data (textit{blue histogram}) as shown in Fig~ref{fig:r90dist}. begin{figure}[!ht] centering % subfloat[]{% % includegraphics[width=0.45linewidth]{figures/r90_dist}% % %label{fig:r90dist_a}% % } % subfloat[]{% % includegraphics[width=0.45linewidth]{figures/r90_dist_log}% % %label{fig:r90dist_b}% % } %caption[Comparison between r90 distributions]{Comparison between r90 distributions obtained using COSMOS data (textit{red histogram}) compared with SDSS DR14 data (textit{blue histogram}) . Panel A shows linear scale while panel B shows logarithmic scale. Scale bar corresponds to 20 kpc at $z = 0$.} label{fig:r90dist} vspace*{-10pt} normalsize end{figure} The difference between these two samples might be due either because COSMOS field is deeper than SDSS or because our sample selection criteria differs from that used by SDSS. To test whether our sample selection criteria is responsible for this difference we repeat our analysis using SDSS DR14 data after applying our selection criteria. We use SDSS DR14 data which contains information about morphology type as determined by Galaxy Zoo project~cite{sloan2009investigation}. Galaxy Zoo project~cite{sloan2009investigation} uses volunteer workers who classify galaxy morphology using images from SDSS. In order not to bias our results we only use galaxies which were classified by more than $10$ volunteers as ``disk" or ``no disk" as described by Masters et al~cite{masters2011galaxy}. We use all available images up until June 2014 release. After applying these criteria we find there are $sim$10 K galaxies left in our sample. We then apply our isolation criteria described above using SDSS data which results in $sim$13 K isolated galaxies. We find that distribution obtained using this new sample (Fig~ref{fig:r90dist}, textit{green histogram}) lies between those obtained using COSMOS data (Fig~ref{fig:r90dist}, textit{red histogram})and SDSS data (textit{blue histogram}). This suggests that difference between distribution obtained using COSMOS data (textit{red histogram}) compared with SDSS data (textit{blue histogram}) is likely due because COSMOS field is deeper than SDSS field. As we see below this difference also results in different distribution between mass ratios found using these two datasets. subsection{$M_1/M_2 > 5$ galaxy pairs} As described above we select galaxy pairs whose mass ratio satisfies $M_1/M_2 > 5$ where $M_1$ is mass
